FM Christodoulides and French counterpart express hope that UN envoy Lutte’s mission may lead to reopening of Cyprus talks

Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides and French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian expressed today the hope that Ms Lutte`s mission in view of her expected tour to all interested members will lead to the resumption of talks on the Cyprus issue as soon as possible.

Nikos Christodoulides, who is in Brussels for the works of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, met Jean-Yves Le Drian this morning on the sidelines and discussed with him the current developments in the Cyprus problem, in view of Ms Lutte`s expected visit to all the parties concerned, and the need for an unrestricted renewal of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), in line with what is also suggested The Secretary General of the United Nations in his report.

As announced, the two Ministers also exchanged views on issues pertaining to bilateral relations between the two countries,  and agreed to continue the discussion during a visit by Le Drian to Cyprus in the immediate future.

In view of France`s particular interest in developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region, regional developments as well as specific ways for collective action were discussed to promote a positive agenda in the region.
