Brunswick Centre goes Greek!

If you were at the Brunswick Shopping Centre Thursday (21 June) evening, you would have sampled a flavour of the med! The Greek event, organised by John Themis, saw thousands of visitors tuck into an appetising Greek buffet and barbeque, traditional Greek sweets loukoumades (honey balls), drinks, entertainment, live music, dancing and much more! And all for free!

The centre, right in the heart of Bloomsbury, came alive with a variety of traditional Greek dance performances from Greek Schools including The Elite Greek Dancers and Figoura School of Greek Dance who performed the Datcha dance, the Syrto and Zorba’s hasapiko – with the audience participating throughout, not to mention the Zeimbekiko dance with plate smashing and the table balanced in the mouth dance!

Furthermore, there was music from the fantastic 6 piece band Diastello, playing instruments such as Bouzouki, Violin, Pithkiavlin and Saxophone.

The amazing Ageliki Darra, Christos Avramidis and Thaleia Oikonomou, all from the Elysée Restaurant, belted out their vocals backed by Pavlos “The Duke” Doukanaris and Diastello.

The amazing Mixalis Theodosiou took to the stage to showcase his awesome talent and brand new single Apousia and the incredible Elizabeth Chapman performed her latest singles Irthes Esi and Stis 7.

The renowned maestro Pavlos Doukanaris and incredibly talented Marios Lazari performed select bouzouki solos backed by Diastello, while the legendary Costas Rialas performed musical pieces with guitarist/song writer John Themis.

It was a fun event for all ages! Here’s to many more!
