Cyprus: Any checks, he assured, at crossing points by the state services will aim at averting illegal trade of fuel as well as other items.
Under no circumstances the government is aiming to prevent the movement of citizens, throughout the Republic’s territory, Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou said on Thursday.
The state’s policy is for citizens to be able to move across the Republic’s entire territory, provided the stipulations of the special Green Line Regulation were met, Prodromou said in a written statement.
Any checks, he assured, at crossing points by the state services will aim at averting illegal trade of fuel as well as other items.
The Spokesman’s statement was made after the uproar caused by the Customs Department on Wednesday that it was increasing checks on vehicles at crossing points.
The Customs Department said the diesel fuel in the Turkish occupied north of the island had higher concentrations of sulphur and violated the fuel standards law.
