AEL took a giant step towards clinching a top four finish and Europa League football this summer after a 2-0 win over Anorthosis Famagusta on Monday night.
Bruno Baltazar’s side are now five points ahead of fifth place Omonia – who had lost 3-0 to Apollon on the weekend – with two games left to go in the end-of-season playoffs. Both goals were scored by Ismael Sassi – who struck in each half – while he also won a penalty which Mikael Arrubarrena sent over Giorgos Papadopoulos’ crossbar.
Meanwhile, APOEL will clinch the league title this weekend if they beat hated rivals Omonia in the Nicosia derby.
