The AKEL delegation, headed by the General Secretary of the Central Committee Andros Kyprianou, continued its contacts in Havana, Cuba. More specifically, the delegation of AKEL had a meeting Rogelio Sierra, Deputy Foreign Minister of Cuba, Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, President of the Cuban Trade Unions and with a delegation from the Presidium of the Cuban National Assembly headed by the General Secretary of the body.
At all the meetings, the General Secretary of AKEL Andros Kyprianou briefed on the latest developments surrounding the Cyprus problem and thanked the Cuban authorities for their principled support and solidarity towards the struggle waged by the Cypriot people for a solution and reunification. At the meeting with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Cuba, Andros Kyprianou briefed on the initiatives which the Charge d’ Affaires of the Republic of Cyprus is taking in Cuba in the field of trade, tourism and culture and asked for their support.
At the meetings, the representatives of Cuba thanked AKEL for the principled support and solidarity it is demonstrating towards their country for the lifting of the blockade implemented by the US. They briefed the AKEL delegation about the political and economic developments in Cuba and the efforts to promote reforms in the field of the economy, always within the framework of socialism.
The AKEL delegation also took part in an international solidarity meeting with the countries of Latin America, the Caribbean and Cuba. On the sidelines of the meeting it met with the President of the World Federation of Trade Union Yiorgos Mavrikios.
The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL is accompanied by Yiorgos Loukaides, member of the Political Bureau and Parliamentary Representative, and Chrystalla Antoniou, member of the Political Bureau of the C.C.
