In July 2017, seven Winchmore School students aged 16 to 18 years, along with 2 members of staff, will be travelling to Ecuador to spend one month working with remote communities to help improve standards of living and community facilities.
They will be building a school, teaching English to the local students and contributing to conservation projects. The students will then spend three weeks living and working in the Andes and the Cloud Forest – experiencing the day to day challenges that local people face. The final week will be spent in the Galapagos Islands helping to protect the endangered species living on the islands.
Spearheaded by Greek Cypriot Theo Sergiou, who has held various events to raise money to make this expedition possible, he has organised, together with his team, a Dinner & Bingo Evening on Friday 12th May 2017 to help with the final push in fundraising.
Theo told Parikiaki, “This would not have been possible without the immense support of the Cypriot Community Centre in Earlham Grove, Wood Green , N22 5HJ who have generously offered the use of their venue for this event.
“The evening will run from 7.15pm to 9.15pm. It will be packed with some extraordinary musical entertainment, an auction and raffle with lots of prizes to be won. There will also be the opportunity to grab yourself a cash prize on the night. “The ticket price of £25 will also include a two course meal cooked by the excellent staff of the Cypriot Community Centre. A bar will be available on the night should you wish to purchase drinks.
“All profits will go to our Expedition Team.” If there is any way you can contribute towards the evening, with an auction or raffle prize or if you have any further ideas to help with fundraising, please contact team at [email protected] . If you can come along to support the expedition, the tickets for the event can be obtained by emailing [email protected] or telephoning 020 8360 7773. “We do hope you can join us at this event and be part of this amazing evening,” said Theo.
“All your support has been overwhelming and it feels me with hope knowing that we are a community of people wanting best for the world,” he concluded.
