10 fire engines and 72 firefighters and officers were called to a fire and reports of an explosion at a house in Stapleton Hall Road in Stroud Green.
All of the basement of the terraced house was damaged by fire. Part of the ground floor and part of the first floor of the property and a shed in the rear garden were also damaged in the blaze.
One person left the property before the arrival of the Brigade.
A Metropolitan Police Service spokesman said: “Police were called at around 1150 on Wednesday, 19 April, to a disturbance at a residential address in Stapleton Hall Road, N4. It is understand that bailiffs were at the address.
“Officers attended the location and, as they arrived at around midday, there was a localised explosion within the property.
”
“The address has been evacuated, but no neighbouring properties are affected at present.”
The Brigade was called at 1203 and the fire was under control at 1530. Fire crews from Hornsey, Stoke Newington, Kentish Town, Holloway and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
Police in Haringey continue to deal with a small house explosion in Stroud Green.
Officers were called at around 11:50hrs on Wednesday, 19 April, to reports of a man armed with a weapon in Stapleton Hall Road N4.
The suspect, a man aged in his late forties, was involved in an ongoing housing dispute.
It is understood that bailiffs were at the address along with the man’s family.
Officers attended the location at 11:57hrs.
London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade also attended the scene.
It would appear a short time later there has been an explosion within the address, this explosion has caused serious burn injuries to the suspect. He has been taken to hospital where he remains in a life threatening condition.
Enquiries into the cause of the explosion are ongoing. This incident is not being treated as terrorism related.
Two female police officers and one male police officer sustained injuries as a result of this incident and have been taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be serious.
Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident. There are no other reported injuries.
The address has been evacuated as a precaution but no neighbouring properties are affected.
Emergency services are working together to make the scene safe and to begin a thorough investigation into the circumstances.
No arrests have been made.
This investigation has been referred to the Directorate of Professional Standards as a matter of procedure and has also been referred to the IPCC as a matter of course.
