Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire in a block of flats on Alexandra Road in Muswell Hill this evening (Friday, 7 April).

The fire damaged part of a flat on the second floor of the three storey block. A man was found by firefighters in the flat and sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thirteen people left the block before the Brigade arrived.

The Brigade was called at 1758 and the fire was under control at 1932. Crews from Finchley, Hornsey and Holloway fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
