Representatives from Enfield’s ‘Friends of Parks’ Groups gathered in the picturesque surroundings of Forty Hall Park to receive £4,000 for various worthy green projects.
The ‘Friends’ Fund’ is money provided to support the Friends of the Parks Groups in the borough of Enfield.
It was designed to provide enhancement by way of small projects suggested by the Friends, and supported by the local community, for the enjoyment of those using its parks. The money is also spent on enhancing work with Friends’ Groups to support outreach work.
Gathering together with Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Daniel Anderson, groups from various Enfield parks celebrated the cash injection to help improve and promote their local green space.
Successful applicants were:
Broomfield Park – allocated £700 – for conservatory improvements and plants;
Bush Hill Park – allocated £500 – for the shelter refurbishments for the urban art project;
Conway Recreation Ground – allocated £600 – for storage shed for tools;
Forty Hall Park – allocated £600 – to fund some pond island plants and tools;
Trent Park – allocated £800 – for community engagement activities and a children’s wildlife club;
Firs Farm Park – allocated £800 – for the purchase of tools.
Cllr Anderson said: “We are deeply indebted to the tireless work of our Friends’ Groups for maintaining and sustaining our parks and open spaces, ensuring that they remain welcoming spaces for the thousands of visitors that they receive every year.
“The Friends’ Fund is a great idea that allows local people to decide what is best for their park and what enhancements would best serve their local green space. Interested Friends Groups can bid for money which, if we agree to support it, result in a wide range of projects, equipment and improvements.
“It is always a pleasure to meet our wonderful volunteers, which in this case is to congratulate them all on their successful projects. Long may they continue.”
