On 13 March, following a consultation period, the green bin service changed to become fortnightly, bringing Enfield Council in line with many other councils around the country. The move was supported by 87 per cent of residents responding to the consultation and will help the Council towards its savings target of £58.5m by 2020/21. The black and blue bins, for household waste and recycling respectively, will continue to be collected each week. Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Daniel Anderson, said: “We want to make sure everyone is fully aware of the new green bin service, so we can all continue to do our bit for recycling in Enfield. “We have a very good reputation for recycling but there is room for some improvement. Our most recent statistics for 2016/17* show that Enfield residents recycle 39% of their waste, but the Council wants this figure to increase to 50% by 2020.
This easy-to-use online calendar, along with the list of food and garden waste collection dates recently sent to each home, will help us all do our bit for a cleaner, greener Enfield.” Further information about your recycling service and the items you can or can’t recycle can be found by visiting the rubbish and recycling pages at https://new.enfield.gov.uk/services/rubbish-and-recycling/.
