A cigarette carelessly disposed is believe to be the cause of a house fire on Shakespeare Avenue in Southgate 10th April 2017.

A small part of the ground floor was damaged.

An elderly man and woman were rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. They were both suffering from smoke inhalation and taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

The Brigade was called at 1208 and the fire was under control by 1256. Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers from Southgate, Finchley, Edmonton and Hornsey fire stations attended the scene.
