Andrew Adams bags another Crown as Cape Town Champion.

 

He Won in Mexico in 2015 and the young man crowned himself as Holiday Champion in Cape Town 2017.

Andrew played a no nonsense final round to distinguish any hopes that his three nearest rivals, Captain (Michael Falekko) , Andy Georgiou and Artemis Artemi thought they had.

Teeing up on the last day and last group on the exceptional Pearl Valley Golf course, and i have to say, everyone agreed it was a special course, Andrew had a nice seven point shot lead and although that lead was at one small moment down to four, the final result was never in serious doubt as he kept his composure and focused on one shot at a time.

Andrew takes his golf very very seriously and tries to cover all bases so he is prepared for every possible challenge and to play off 5 hcp meaning he has no margin of error, shows what a worthy Champion he is.

To recall a few months ago, The Captains words were “It’s my greatest pleasure to take the society to my country of birth – South Africa”

Twenty nine members made up the party that met up at the glorious Table Bay Hotel on the 4th March.

Tired faces, but once greeted by the African sun, it soon put a smile on everyone’s face.

As we had the afternoon off before competition began on Sunday, we were soon taking in some breath taking views of Cape Town from the summit of Table Mountain.

It was our first evening meal as a group. Followed by a nice speech from a Proud South African – Greek Captain and let’s say a drink or two or three, also a THANK YOU to our sponsor Sotirakis Neophytou (Newplant)

Sunday 5th March – Texas Scramble – Pearl Valley – Newplant (Sponsor)

Texas Scramble is a team of 4 competition and it’s a nice relaxing way to get the golfing trip going before the more pressured singles rounds.

Monday 6th March – Day 1 Singles – Pearl Valley – Sponsor (Newplant)

And the serious stuff begins – All the practise all the dreams parked aside as reality is right here, right now. Sun blazing, Temperature and along with a few tempers was on the rise, as the greens were already taking victim after victim.

And this is where a good golfer will shine and Andrew Adams did that with 35 pts.

Followed by Artemi Artemis with 33 its and three players sharing a 32 pt mark.

Tuesday 7th March – Day 2 Singles – Steenberg G.C – Newplant (Sponsor)

Views – Views – Views and what views nature treated us to.

Wednesday 8th March – Amigos Day – Erinvale G.C – NewPlant Sponsor

A day which we all can take a breather from the intense single events and dare i say it, a relaxing round with your Amigo.

Relaxing ? don’t you believe it. The wind was up with sun blazing away and bets high up on the agenda.

AndyG with Dave Blackwood came in with a good score on such a day with 40 points and were told that it could be a winning score.

Captain and Artemi had other ideas and also posted the same score but Won on countback.

Thursday 9th March – Day 3 Singles – Arabella G.C. – NewPlant Sponsor

Think this was a day that no-one will forget. We all played in windy conditions in our time but THIS was something else. Fantastic course but not one player had time to admire. This was such a card destroyer and the scores after nine holes proved just that. Tales of scores such as 4 pts – 7 pts – 10 pts. One person looked that he enjoyed it as he turned on 18 pts. But even he caved in as the wind took it’s told. But end of the day Savva was the one laughing with his deserved winnings.

Friday 10th March – Day 4 Singles – Pearl Valley – NewPlant Sponsor

And here we are. The GRAND FINALE. Back to Pearl Valley which again was in it’s majestic best.

After three days of singles the Last Group was made up with Artemis Artemi – The Captain – Andy Georgiou and our Leader by a nice margin of 7 points – Andrew Adams.

Artemis and Captain made their intentions clear by smashing their drives right down the fairway as AndyG tried the more cautious way.

After a few little twists and turns, it was obvious Andrew Adams was in no mood to play ball with our tactics to try and unsettle him. Focus and good play made sure he maintained a healthy lead which saw him cross the line and thus Winning the 2017 Holiday.

In the evening we all gathered at the hotel with the beautiful Table Mountain as background for the presentation of the trophies to the winners. The Captain Michael Falekkos and Agie Neophytou (Vice Captain and Sponsor) presented trophies and winning envelopes to all the winners.

Final few words from the Captain and all in agreement as this holiday like others before and future to come, was a fantastic holiday in it’s own right.
