The Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Cyprus is in contact with the Norwegian Foreign Ministery with regard to the issue of the abduction of 4-year-old Marie Eleni Grimsruld on Thursday, in Nicosia, a Foreign Ministry source has told CNA.
The 4-year-old girl was kidnapped early on Thursday morning in front of her Cypriot mother, outside a kindergarten in Nicosia . Cyprus Police have secured an arrest warrant against her father, a 49-year-old Norwegian national. The Police said on Friday morning that four men were arrested on Thursday evening and were questioned.
The suspects are three Greek Cypriots aged 44, 47 and 39 and a 33-year-old Syrian national. A black Range Rover – which was in the possession of the Syrian national – has also been seized to determine if it was the car used in the abduction.
The girl was abducted by two hooded men, using force, as her mother was about to enter the kindergarten. The girl was forced to enter a black SUV, which sped away from the scene of the abduction.
“We are in contact with the Norwegian Foreign Ministry and we have asked for their cooperation and contribution as regards this case. Some contacts are being held and there is a communication channel between the two ministries,” the Foreign Ministry source told CNA, adding that there is nothing to be announced yet.
We acted immediately, we are following the whole issue and we will intervene whenever this is required, the source added. It also said that the Cypriot Foreign Ministry is in contact with the Cyprus police and all public services which are dealing with this case.
