Apollon Limassol reignited their title hopes on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over Omonia in Nicosia.

Sofronis Avgoustis’ side managed to cut the lead on leaders APOEL to just four points after the Cypriot champions succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at third place AEK on Saturday. In the other game on Sunday, young centre-back Andreas Kyriakou scored the only goal as AEL beat Anorthosis Famagusta in Larnaca.

The win moved AEL into fourth place over Omonia – who recently signed on former AEL coach Pambos Christodoulou as their new manager. Caretaker manager Akis Ioakim was in the dugout for the game.

At the GSP Stadium in Nicosia, Apollon opened the scoring when Omonia keeper Giorgos Panagi played out a wayward pass and the visitors attacked with Adrian Sardinero finishing off the move.

Arkadiusz Piech put the game beyond doubt with a late second goal for Apollon.

In the only game on Monday, Nea Salamina take on Ermis Aradippou in a dead rubber game.
