The United Nations is looking into two cases concerning allegations against members of the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces in Cyprus (UNFICYP).

Deputy UN Spokesman Ferhan Haq replied to questions during Tuesday`s briefing at the UN headquarters regarding two separate investigations which are underway by UNFICYP.

The first involves allegations of theft of various objects by UN peacekeepers and the second the issue of the Chief Financial Officer of UNFICYP who obtained Cypriot citizenship.

The Deputy Spokesman said “the Mission is investigating the veracity of the allegations and will take prompt and appropriate action if UNFICYP personnel have been found to commit any wrong doing. But that investigation is proceeding.”

Regarding the second case, Haq said “the competent UN offices are reviewing, to confirm its compatibility with applicable UN rule.”
