Local voluntary group, Black Rainbow Events, who were responsible for a series of free guided tours in Trent Park over the last four years, have received the seal of approval for their new schedule of tours from Cllr Jason Charalambous.
Cllr Charalambous, below who is Ward Councillor for Cockfosters and founder of the ‘Save Trent Park’ campaign, as well as Chairman of the Trent Park Museum Trust, has endorsed the latest series of free walks in the country park, which include history, nature and photography tours, plus a special Halloween event.
For the first time, the programme will also include a special tour which covers just the history and mystery of Camlet Moat, Trent Park’s Scheduled Ancient Monument, believed by some to have a mystical past and connections to the legend of King Arthur.
The walks are all free and have been sponsored by Berkeley Homes, the owners of the mansion and grounds; famously the site of a secret bugging operation that helped win World War II.
There is no need to book the walks, just turn up and have fun.
Cllr Charalambous said: “Thanks to a hard-fought effort with the help of leading experts, public figures and determined local people, we have made considerable progress towards the establishment of Trent Park Museum.
“I am thrilled to see that Black Rainbow Events have secured funding to continue these free walks and tours, which have become more popular and successful every year.
“Berkeley Homes will be granting a lease of the ground floor and basement of the listed mansion to the Trent Park Museum Trust to develop the museum and learning centre, subject to Planning Committee consent being granted by Enfield Council. The application is due to go to Committee within the next couple of months, so we all have our fingers crossed.
“Trent Park Mansion and the grounds are entering exciting times. These guided tours are an opportunity for anyone wanting to explore its incredible history, or discover the beauty of the park’s nature and wildlife.
“But don’t just take my word for it, come on one of the walks and find out for yourself!”
