Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades attended on Monday the inauguration of the Russian St Andrew The Apostle And All Russian Saints Church in Episkopeio village, in Nicosia district.
Addressing the ceremony, Anastasiades said that the newly constructed church is not only a Christian symbol of the Orthodox faith but also a symbol of the unity between the Russians and the Cypriots.
Anastasiades noted that the Church will serve the spiritual needs of Russian Orthodox people living in Cyprus and will be a concrete monument of the strong spiritual connection of the two Orthodox peoples of Cyprus and Russia, contributing in this way to the deepening of their historic relation, co-understanding, cooperation and mutual help.
Anastasiades thanked all those who contributed to the construction of the church, Russians and Cypriots, and the benefactor of the church Viatislav Antamovic Zaregov.
The President said that Zaregov has been actively engaged in charity in a significant way and has significantly and in various ways contributed to the protection of our cultural heritage.
Furthermore he noted that the common faith of Cypriots and Russians in the Orthodox Church constitutes a very powerful link between them.
