Enfield Council’s CCTV team have helped the police arrest two people for affray and another three for burglary in the last week.

The department’s operators helped police officers arrest two people for affray after a major fight broke out on the junction of the A10 and Southbury Road in Enfield at 4.40pm on Friday (17 March).

One man was spotted aggressively waving a waking crutch but ran onto a bus when he spotted police officers arrive, but CCTV operator directed the police onto the bus and helped identify the culprit, a second male was arrested minutes later after CCTV operators spotted a fight starting at a bus stop across the road, and one individual using his belt as a weapon.

He attempted to flee but was followed by CCTV operators who directed police to his location and he was arrested. Police also arrested a third male in connection with the fight for possession of an offensive weapon.

On Friday (18 March) at around 2.40pm CCTV operators heard two men had been spotted stealing metal from a building site in Alma Road, Enfield. They were caught on camera and followed as they removed the metal in a plastic bucket and got into a blue VW beetle and drove off.

But CCTV operators followed them and directed police officers to their location where two men and a woman were arrested for burglary.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Public Health, Cllr Krystle Fonyonga, said: “If you are going to try and commit crime in Enfield we are going to use every tool at our disposal to catch you and that includes our excellent CCTV network.

“We are absolutely committed to making our borough a safer place and these incidents demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of our award winning CCTV network and the quality of our partnership working with the Metropolitan Police.”
