DISY party via its President and the DISY MP’s members of the Parliamentary Educational Affairs and Culture Committee are constantly regressing going back and forth, moving on dangerous nationalist paths.
DISY chairs the Committee on Educational Affairs of the House of Representatives and signed, together with ELAM – DIKO – “Citizens Alliance”, amendments or consented to the registration of issues for discussion in parliament, which do not serve our country’s declared political goals.
• They initially imposed the compulsory teaching of Ancient Greek and Religious Education despite the different intention of the Minister of Education and in violation of International and European Conventions for the protection of children’s rights.
• They submitted an issue related to the discussion for the inclusion of texts of our Turkish Cypriot compatriots in school curricula. From the day after, until today, the MPs of DISY have been attempting to desperately justify their position.
• The highlight of their inconsistent hypocritical stand was when DISY voted in favour of the amendment tabled by ELAM on the Enosis Referendum in the Educational Affairs and Culture Committee of the House of Representatives.
The upcoming presidential elections illustrate that the lust for power is sweet. AKEL however believes that our homeland and the reunification of our country are sweeter.
