Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides will meet in Brussels with his British counterpart Boris Johnson, at the request of the latter, to discuss the latest developments on the Cyprus issue, an official press release said on Friday.

Kasoulides will also have a meeting with the Irish Minister for European Affairs Dara Murphy, at his request, to discuss Brexit.

The two meetings will take place on the sidelines of the Foreign Affairs Council and the General Affairs Council of the EU that will meet on March 6 and 7, respectively, in Brussels.

During the Foreign Affairs Council there will be a joint session of defence and foreign affairs ministers on security and defence.

EU ministers will also discuss political developments and economic reforms in Egypt, as well as the country`s role in the region, with Egypt`s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry.

The Council will hold a discussion on migration, will review the situation in the Western Balkans and will examine the Middle East peace process and take stock of recent developments.

The General Affairs Council will discuss the Conclusions to be adopted by the European Council on March 9 and 10.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory. UN-led negotiations between Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci began in May 2015 with a view to reunite the island under a federal roof.
