This week the Mayor of Enfield’s chosen charity, ‘Enfield Sounds Great’ received a donation of £357.00 from Southgate Opera, one of the premier amateur opera companies in London.

The money was raised by the group singing in Enfield Town Market Square and a concert of British music held at St Mary Magdalene’s Church.

The Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Bernadette Lappage’s chosen charity is ‘Enfield Sounds Great’, which helps support musical education; school choirs, glee projects and encourages musical therapies.

Cllr Lappage said “I was absolutely blown away by the generosity of Southgate Opera, who through their sterling efforts raised £357 for my charity, ‘Enfield Sounds Great’.

“This money will go towards bringing music into the lives of as many young people in the borough as possible, and assistance with musical projects in the future. I am really grateful for the hard work that Southgate Opera have put into their fundraising.

“Most of the fundraising for my charity has come direct from the musical community of Enfield, which has stepped up to help ensure that everyone in our borough has as much access to music as possible.”

Lee Davies, Chairman of Southgate Opera said: “We decided to get involved with the Mayor’s charity to raise money for music in Enfield, because it linked in so closely to our aims. Southgate Opera are all about encouraging the whole community to participate in music at any level and to make it enjoyable.

“We recognise the huge benefit music can bring to the community as well as those performing, so donating to ‘Enfield Sounds Great’ was exactly the right thing to do for our group.”

Southgate Opera always welcomes new members to come along and perform, or help backstage. To find out more go to the Southgate Opera website.
