– Construct With Us invites those interested in a career in building to Nightingale Academy
– Activities will demonstrate a wealth of opportunities for a wide range of people

Students and residents from across Enfield will have a unique opportunity to meet some of the giants of the construction world and to engage in hands-on activities from plumbing to carpentry, surveying and levelling, to design and robotics.
The Construct With Us event is part of the Council’s Build Enfield campaign, which encompasses a number of exciting prospects for students, apprentices and job-seekers. Industry leaders such as Countryside, Galldris and Morgan Sindall are collaborating with the Edmonton Schools Partnership and Enfield Council to offer a wealth of activities at Nightingale Academy, aimed at promoting jobs in construction and to increase awareness of the breadth of opportunities available to people from all walks of life.
Nightingale Academy in Turin Road, Edmonton, is opening its doors to neighbouring schools on Wednesday, 29 March during the day and to the public from 3.30-5pm.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Children’s Services & Protection, Cllr Ayfer Orhan, said: “This is a thrilling opportunity for students in Edmonton and indeed across the borough. There are hundreds of opportunities in the building industry that encompass a variety of skills. This event is a fantastic chance to dig deep to unearth their talents. With the right advice and training, our students of today can be part of Enfield’s infrastructure tomorrow.”
There are a number of construction opportunities in Enfield. The £6 billion Meridian Water project alone will, over the next 20 years, provide 10,000 new homes for Enfield. It will require 10,000 construction industry jobs to make it become a reality and will ultimately provide 6,700 permanent new high quality jobs in the creative, professional, low-carbon, digital, media, hi-tech and engineering sectors.
Meanwhile, other major construction projects in the borough are the Electric Quarter in Ponders End and the regeneration of the Alma Estate. As well as the highly-respected building companies, there will be representatives at the event from Enfield’s further education institutions Barnet & Southgate College and The College of Haringey Enfield and North East London, who will be able to offer information on options such as apprenticeships in the industry. Enterprise Enfield will also be attending.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration & Business, Cllr Alan Sitkin, said: “Enfield is in a very special position in London. We are constructing new homes, retail spaces and places of leisure for generations to come. But the success of these projects rely partly on engagement with the industry to help it grow and flourish.
Events such as Construct With Us will help build on our already strong workforce in the building sector. For those looking for a career change or to enter the workforce, there are countless possibilities within the industry. In addition, the further education colleges in Enfield have hundreds of apprenticeship opportunities aimed at both younger and older participants across several skill levels. Ultimately, the sky’s the limit.”
As well as the hands-on practical activities at Construct With Us, Nightingale Academy will be offering information on services to help people get back to meaningful employment, including an exclusive course on CV writing. No registration is required for the public for the afternoon event.
