The UK’s first ever Greek Cypriot Council Leader is putting his weight behind Sadiq Khan to be the next Mayor of London.

Aradippou born Stephen Alambritis is the leader of the Council at the London Borough of Merton.

“London is the greatest city in the world, but we’re at a crossroads. Too many Londoners are being priced out of our city by the Tory housing crisis and rising cost of commuting”  Councillor Alambritis told Parikiaki

“ The next generation of Greek Cypriots are missing out on the opportunities to fulfil their potential that our city gave Sadiq. If we don’t act now it could be too late” continued the outer London borough leader.

Alambritis said Sadiq Khan’s background as the son of a bus driver and a seamstress reflects that of many Greek Cypriots who came to London from  1950 onwards “London gave Sadiq the opportunities to go from the council estate where he grew up to helping run a successful business and serving as Transport Minister”.

Alambritis added “Sadiq wants to ensure that all Londoners get the opportunities that our city gave him – the opportunities to fulfil their potential and to be able to afford to call London home”.

In urging readers of Parikiaki to vote for the Tooting MP, Alambritis concluded “ Sadiq has a real plan to increase opportunities for all Londoners and ensure the next generation can afford to call London home: by fixing the Tory housing crisis, creating a modern and affordable transport system, building a stronger and fairer economy and by making Londoners safer and healthier”.
