With a change of management from father to son, Troodos Cypriot taverna, in Glenfield, has retained its friendly, down-to-earth approach.

Troodos is one of those small, restaurants that has acquired a loyal following. It was opened in 1986 by the current owner’s father, Leon, who came to the UK from Cyprus in the late ’50s. He eventually found his way to Glenfield, where he opened a fish and chip shop in 1968 and, 18 years later, recreated a typical Cypriot taverna next door.

Earlier this year, Leon retired and son Perry returned from a spell in Cyprus and, along with wife Antri, has taken over. Dad, with his big personality and years of experience, must be a hard act to follow, and the pair have sensibly avoided making any radical changes.

In fact, not long after taking over, Perry and Antri had the pleasure of serving the meze to Ainsley Harriott, dance judge Len Goodman and a film crew to go on BBC TV.

When they took over, they were position about 350 on TripAdvisor and now they are 46th, just a slight difference.
