Omonia eased into the third round of the Europa League after drawing 0-0 in Nicosia on Thursday night against Budućnost Podgorica to win the tie 2-0 on aggregate.
Omonia did all the hard work in the away leg in Montenegro winning 2-0 making the return leg of this drab second round tie a less hazardous obstacle. There were some chances in the game but neither side was clinical in front of goal.
Omonia will now face Metalurg Skopje of FYROM in the next round where Costas Kaiafas’ side will once again be the favourites to advance. Should Omonia go on to eliminate Metalurg, then they will reach the playoff phase of the Europa League where they will be unseeded in the draw.
Omonia have reached the playoff stage on just two occasions losing 3-2 on aggregate to Metalist Kharkiv back in 2010 before then going out to Red Bull Salzburg on the away goals rule one year later.
The Nicosia club have never reached the group stages of a UEFA competition.
