Suspected fuel spill in Alexandra Park pond ‘making dogs sick’
Alexandra Park wardens are dealing with a suspected diesel spill in one of its ponds after dog walkers became concerned their pets were getting sick.
The Redston pond, in the south of the park, has now been fenced off to prevent people and animals getting into the area.
It is rumoured a number of dogs had become ill after being in the area, leaving people fearing someone was poisoning dogs on purpose – especially in light of a number of cases of animal poisoning in Brent.
But Palace officials have acted quickly to ensure no more dogs get sick due to the suspected pollution in their pond.
An Alexandra Palace spokesman said: “We are dealing with what may have been a spill of diesel fuel into the Redston pond in Alexandra Park.
“The fencing around the pond has been repaired after recent vandalism to stop access by people and animals.
“The pond is designed to capture any run off and as a precautionary measure we are installing a small absorbent boom to minimise the risk of pollution.
“We are also testing the water and will take any further steps necessary when we learn the results.”
