KOPA League Round Up
KOPA First Division Cup
Semi Final
Apoel 3 New Salamis 4
What a game this was full of excitement but disappointment too. It got off to a good start when Apoel took the lead within a couple of minutes when David Knight put the New Salamis centre half Xiouri under pressure who in turn deflected the ball into his own net. Ten minutes later the Red’s striker Kyri Portou got a chance to slot the ball home from the edge of the box to make it 1-1.
Then a clash between Deniz Memet of New Salamis and Tambson Eyong of Apoel resulted in both players being sent off. Apoel’s Tambson Eyong would not leave the pitch and the game was delayed for ten minutes.
The second half was what football should be all about both teams played really well and there was five goals to show for it. New Salamis made it 2-1 with a cracker of a goal from Kyri Portou Apoel substitute Richard Worrall made it 2-2. Then a penalty was awarded to Apoel but the New Salamis Keeper Erbil pulled off a good save from Andre McCollins spot kick.
It turned out a competition of who was going to score the most goals between New Salamis Kyri Portou and Apoel’s Richard Worrall and it was Kyri who came up trumps by scoring another two giving him a hat trick to Richards one that gave him a brace. The excitement lasted until the last minute when it seemed the game was going to go into penalties and Richard Benjamin popped up to score and give New Salamis the win.
A good win for New Salamis at 4-3 to reach the First Division Cup Final and now have to wait to play the winners of Cetinkaya Cinar v Tripimeni.
