Heavy rainfall in Cyprus

The police on Thursday warned drivers to be especially careful as heavy rainfall led to potentially dangerous conditions due to water accumulation on the roads.
A police announcement said a number of traffic accidents had been caused on the section of the Limassol to Nicosia highway near Skarinou, due to the road’s slippery surface.
A significant amount of rainwater had also accumulated on a section of the Limassol to Paphos highway near Avdimou, the police said.
“Drivers are called on to be especially careful, to drive slowly, to maintain a safe distance from the car in front of them, drive with their lights on and follow police instructions and traffic signals,” the announcements said.
Having released a ‘Yellow’ awareness level rainfall warning for Thursday, the Meteorological Service said the wet weather is set to continue—and perhaps worsen– at least until Friday.
A service official said the ‘Yellow’ warning was the most mild and generally notified authorities such as the fire brigade and police to be on alert.
