Tuesday 29th April 2014  (Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy – 2nd Round)

The first half of this much delayed second round tie against the newly crowned League Champions was an even affair with neither side creating any really clear cut chances.   Ellis Remy drove the best Borough chance well wide and Borough had a let off when ‘keeper Austin Byfield ventured out to the edge of the penalty box but failed to collect only for the loose ball to be lifted over the bar.    But Borough cut loose in the second half which was only two minutes old when Darrell Cox directed a low cross shot accurately into the corner to the right of ‘keeper Adam Seal from quite a tight angle.    Seven minutes later Rakim Richards was on hand to finish at the far post as Dean Fenton’s header came back off the bar.   Fenton it was who put the result beyond doubt as he outpaced the defence onto a long through ball on the hour mark and coolly drove it home low and hard.   Borough’s clean sheet – their seventh ion a row – never looked to  be under serious threat and Fenton finished the match two minutes from time when he again broke free and delicately lobbed the ball over the advancing  ‘keeper into the top corner.     The win set up a quarter final tie next Saturday with Takeley who were defeated at Coles Park last Saturday in Borough’s final League game and the winners will also be at home in the semi-final when the visitors will be London APSA
