Implementation of major structural reforms in Cyprus is in full swing, Finance Minister Harris Georgiades stated here on Thursday.

Asked to comment on pending issues, ahead of a new round of contacts a Troika delegation will have in Cyprus next week, as part of its mission review of the country`s adjustment program, the Minister referred to outstanding issues concerning public sector reform.

He said on this matter that the integration of the two tax departments – the VAT Service and the Inland Revenue Department – provides a concrete example of important reforms that are being implemented in the public sector.

He also referred to the national Health Scheme the government wants to implement after decades of delay in a viable manner, as well as to social policy reform.

All these structural changes will be discussed and their progress will be evaluated, Georgiades said, adding that now there is political will to advance all issues that should have been implemented for years.

Cyprus is currently implementing a 3-year fiscal adjustment program, following a bailout deal, reached last year with its international lenders, known as the Troika (European Commission, ECB, IMF).
