Two new suspects have been remanded in police custody on suspicion of raping a 21-year-old Swedish tourist on a secluded beach in Ayia Napa on Easter Sunday.
The two men initially arrested in connection with the assault – a 22-year-old Greek Cypriot and a 24-year-old Romanian were released after no evidence surfaced against them. A 22-year-old man from Nicosia and a 24-year-old Romanian national have now been remanded for eight days in connection with the attack. State pathologist Eleni Antoniou who examined the victim said there was evidence that she had been raped.
