Russia’s ambassador to Cyprus Stanislav Osadchiy has said that his country recognizes the fact that Cyprus is an EU member state and thus has to act within this framework with regard to the Ukraine crisis, noting that Cyprus – Russia relations will continue in the future.

Russian Ambassador was speaking to the press following a meeting he had here today with the President of the Democratic Rally (DISI) Averof Neofytou, at DISI headquarters, during which they discussed the Cyprus issue and the latest developments in Crimea.

President of the Democratic Rally (DISI) Averof Neofytou praised the friendly and economic ties that exist between Cyprus and Russia while he asked for Moscow’s understanding on Cyprus stance on Ukraine crisis due to the fact that Cyprus is an EU member state and thus should respect collective decisions taken at the EU level.

He expressed the hope that a solution would be found to Ukraine crisis through dialogue and political means.

In his statements, Osadchiy said that his country recognizes that Cyprus is a member state of the EU and thus has to act within this framework.
Osadchiy expressed the view that the crisis erupted in the West – Russia relationship because of Ukraine would be eased.
He also said that Cyprus – Russia close and warm relations will continue in the future.
