Research by the Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the University of Cyprus offers a deeper understanding of the mechanisms leading to kidney cancer.
The research was based on a scientific hypothesis by post – doctoral fellow Apostolos Zaravinos. The results confirm that tumor cells of the kidney use more than one mechanism and also a number of different biological pathways to achieve their malignant transformation.
This paper was selected among thousands and was presented at the 50th European Congress of Nephrology (ERA-EDTA) last May in Istanbul.
The same work was published only recently in the scientific journal Oncoscience.
After 26 months of work at the Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the University of Cyprus, Dr Zaravinos is now based in Stockholm, Sweden, where he continues his research on cancer at the prestigious Karolinska Institute.
