The significance of confidence building measures (CBMs) between the two communities of Cyprus was discussed Wednesday by Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot parties leaders and representatives, during their regular meeting at Ledra Palace, in Nicosia, under the aegis of the Slovak Embassy.

The Slovak Ambassador to Nicosia Oksana Tomova, while reading the joint communique, at the end of the meeting, said that political parties expressed their opinions on the issue, as proposed by the hosting Democratic Rally party.

“The political parties agreed on that we need to build trust in an effective way, to have a lasting impact on everyone in our country” Tomova said.

She added that the next meeting will be held on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 11.30, at Ledra Palace, in the form of an extraordinary meeting, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the bicommunal dialogue of the political parties in Cyprus.

The meeting will be held in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák, upon his official visit to Cyprus.

The Slovak Embassy in Cyprus has been engaged since 1989 in the bicomunal dialogue, and hosts a monthly session between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties at Ledra Palace, the headquarters of the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus.
