Government spokesman Christos Stylianides resigned on Monday to contest the European Parliament elections next month.
“It was a difficult decision to step down before the work of the Nicos Anastasiades’ administration was completed,” Stylianides said.
The Presidential Palace said that Nicos Christodoulides, director of Anastasiades’diplomatic office, will be taking over as government spokesman for the time being.
The president expressed sadness over the resignation.
“Despite losing a tireless and competent associate, I understand his wish to continue his political career in Europe that is his natural arena and his firm orientation over the years,” a written statement said.
