Cyprus and Abu Dhabi have signed a bilateral agreement for cooperation in the air travel services sector and Memoranda of Understanding on energy, tourism, education and science.
According to an official press release issued here today, the Agreement and the Memoranda were signed in the context of the meeting of the President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The Agreement and the Memoranda were signed on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus by the Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism George Lakkotrypis, who accompanies the President on his official visit to Abu Dhabi.
The Memorandum of Understanding on Energy provides for the establishment of a general framework of cooperation on energy issues, the creation of favorable conditions with regard to technical expertise in relation to offshore operations for the exploitation of hydrocarbons.
It also provides for the exchange of technical expertise on issues of energy infrastructure and issues concerning the distribution of energy.
The Memorandum on Education and Science provides for the exchange of educational missions, granting of scholarships, and cooperation to finalize an agreement on mutual recognition of academic degrees.
The Memorandum on Tourism provides for the planning and development of tourism with the exchange of technical expertise and the promotion of the tourist product of the two countries on sides.
The Agreement on Air Travel Services, which is a Revised Agreement of 1999 aligned with relevant EU provisions, provides for granting of rights within the framework of the “fifth freedom” for the Emirate Airlines for several destinations within Europe.
Earlier today, President Anastasiades, was officially welcomed today at the Mushrif Palace (the Presidential Palace) by the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
President Anastasiades and Prince Al Nahyan reviewed the military guard of honour and then the national anthems of the two countries were performed.
Immediately afterwards, the two delegations, headed by President Anastasiades and the Crown Prince, held talks, the press release concludes.
