A State Department official reaffirmed today the US support for Cyprus talks aiming to reach a comprehensive settlement in the island, urging at the same time both sides to make real and substantial progress.

State Department official was replying to a question regarding Wednesday’s meeting between Assistant Secretary Victoria Nuland and Deputy Assistant Secretary Eric Rubin with Turkish Cypriot negotiator Kudret Ozersay.

As he stated, the meeting was part of periodic consultations the Department conducts with all parties involved in the Cyprus talks.

“We reaffirm our full support for the Cypriot-led process, under the auspices of the United Nations Good Offices Mission, to reach a comprehensive settlement” he pointed out.

“We continue to urge both sides to make real and substantial progress towards reunifying the island as a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation” he added
