The biggest challenge we face, but also the Government’s top priority is tackling unemployment, said President Nicos Anastasiades, noting that unemployment will be addressed for good through investments and the recovery of the economy.

Addressing the inauguration of the new facilities of the Cyprus Institute of Marketing in Limassol, the President said that after a year of dramatic experiences, an unprecedented economic contraction and 22 consecutive downgrades of its credit rating, Cyprus enjoys the first positive ratings by the rating firms, the banking sector has been reorganised and the public sector is moving toward its modernisation.

“Of course we are still at the beginning but we are on track” noted the President.

He then stressed that “the biggest challenge we face and our top priority is the employment of the unemployed”.

Admitting that through the schemes introduced by the Government unemployment cannot be fully addressed, President Anastasiades pointed out that “unemployment will be completely tackled when investments are made and the economy recovers”.

He went on to say that the Government has launched “a strenuous campaign in key countries to attract investments” and already receives positive messages.
