Police have released the first picture of NHS worker Naudel Turner after she was stabbed to death in the street in a frenzied knife attack.
The 42-year-old mother and NHS worker was stabbed repeatedly in the neck just yards away from the GP surgery in Lordship Lane, Tottenham.
The woman, named today by police as Naudel Turner, left the Castleview Surgery shortly before it shut at 1pm yesterday.
Officers said she travelled to work in Tottenham from her home in Fulham, west London.
She was the mother of two sons age 19 and 20.
As she reached Bruce Grove a short distance away she was confronted by a man and witnesses described a blazing row between them before the man suddenly pulled out a knife and plunged it into her neck.
The man, who is thought to have been one of the victim’s patients, is said to have then calmly stood rolling a cigarette as he waited for police to arrive.
Dr Fariba Azarian, a GP at one of two practices where the victim worked, said colleagues had been left “shocked and distraught” by the attack.
She said: “She was an absolutely lovely, lovely lady. One of the most professional and caring people that I have seen.
“She was somebody who would go out of her way to help people and patients. She was very very kind. We are just shocked and distraught by it.”
The nurse, who also worked at the practice’s Bruce Grove clinic, was rushed by ambulance to a central London hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Witnesses described what had happened.
Tottenham MP David Lammy took to Twitter to condemn the “horrendous” slaying, adding: “Glad that the suspect is in custody. Thanks to paramedics and hospital staff for their efforts”
Forensic officers combed the scene behind a cordon until late last night while putting down markers around a discarded bag of tobacco on the street, marked with pools of blood.
Police today appealed for people seen taking pictures of the attack to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Noel MucHugh, who is leading the murder inquiry, said: “In particular we would like to speak to a black male who was wearing a white tracksuit top who witnesses saw taking images at the scene.
“He is not a suspect, but we urge him to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
Dariusz Miakienko, 46, of Lordship Lane, Tottenham, has been charged with murder and will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ court on Friday.
