All political forces should use a positive and constructive language in order to prepare the two communities for the solution, Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties have agreed during their regular meeting at the Ledra Palace hotel, in the buffer-zone under the auspice of the Slovak Embassy in Cyprus.
In a joint communiqué, read out by the Slovak Ambassador Oksana Tomova, the parties call upon and encourage the leaders of the island’s two communities to exert all efforts towards an early solution of the Cyprus problem.
“All political forces should use a positive and constructive language in order to prepare the two communities for the solution,” they pointed out.
They also expressed the position that “it is important for all political parties to have direct access and have more visibility in the media all over the island”.
The parties expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the NGOs, trade unions, business associations and peace initiatives for more cooperation between two communities.
“As the political parties, we will continue to participate and facilitate bi-communal events with the aim of rapprochement in the island of Cyprus”, says the communiqué.
During the meeting the parties expressed opinions on the issue as proposed by the hosting Republican Turkish Party on “How can political parties contribute to the negotiation process on the solution on the Cyprus problem”.
The next regular meeting of the leaders and representatives of the political parties will be held on the 30th of April at the Ledra Pallas.
Cyprus was divided in 1974 when Turkey invaded the island and occupied its northern third. UN-backed talks resumed in February this year, following an agreed Joint Statement.
