A mother of two has been sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of embezzling €536, 430 from her employer.
The Nicosia Criminal Court heard the defendant who was the manager of the company’s accounting office embezzled the funds over a seven year period. The defendant also cooked the firm’s books to conceal accounting irregularities.
In handing down the sentence, the three judge panel said it had taken the defendant’s previously clean record into consideration but could not ignore the severity of the crime and the length of time the thefts took place over.
