With high percentages of dust particles remaining in the Cyprus atmosphere, the Labour Inspection Department on Tuesday afternoon called on vulnerable groups of the population to remain indoors and for those obliged to work outside to take necessary precautions.
A department announcement said that at 1pm Tuesday the amount of dust particles in the air was above average, reaching between 31 and 130 micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m3) depending on the area with the average for the day expected to go over the 50 μg/m3 limit set by the relevant law.
On Monday, levels reached, depending on the area, between 49 and 127 μg/m3.
Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children and those suffering from ill health were advised to avoid spending time outdoors and people working outside use adequate protection from the dust.
