A Hatfield dad has last night (Thursday) been charged with the murder of his four-year-old daughter.

“She was truly the most gentle, loving, happy and amazing little soul we had the pleasure of knowing.”

Statement from Alexa-Marie’s mother’s side of the family

Carl Wheatley, 30, will appear before Hatfield Remand Court tomorrow (Friday) charged with murdering Alexa-Marie at their home address in Queen Bee Court.

The toddler died at Lister Hospital yesterday.

Police had been called to the terraced home, off Cunningham Avenue, shortly after 9.30am.

A post mortem to establish the cause of death will take place on Monday.

A statement released from Alexa-Marie’s mother’s side of the family said: “We are completely stunned and devastated that our beautiful little girl has been taken from us so suddenly.

“She was truly the most gentle, loving, happy and amazing little soul we had the pleasure of knowing.

“We would ask to be left alone to grieve at this traumatic time.”
