Greek Cypriot negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis arrives on Wednesday in New York, where he will have on Thursday and Friday a series of meetings at the UN headquarters with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman, the five permanent members and possibly other Security Council member states.

Mavroyiannis will also address on Saturday a conference of the Cyprus Federation of America.

His visit takes place after the meetings which the self-styled foreign minister of the Turkish Cypriot illegal regime Ozdil Nami and the Turkish Cypriot negotiator Kudret Ozersay had during recent weeks in Washington and New York.

Mavroyiannis will present the views of the Greek Cypriot side on how Cyprus negotiations evolve and their prospects, stressing the need to change the climate by promoting confidence building measures.

He will leave New York on Saturday to return to Cyprus. On Wednesday he will return to Washington to hold meetings with US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns and other State Department officials as well as with US National Security Council officials and US Congress members.

UN-backed talks resumed in February this year, following an agreed Joint Declaration between the leaders of the two communities, namely President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu. The leaders are scheduled to meet end of March while the negotiators of the two sides meet on a regular basis.
