The meetings of the negotiators of the two sides in Ankara and Athens took place in a good and constructive atmosphere, FM Ioannis Kasoulides said Friday.
Speaking to the press following the meeting of the Cabinet and invited to comment on the meetings that took place yesterday, the FM said that the government will be briefed by the G/C negotiator and there will be a comprehensive and thorough assessment.
The negotiator of the Greek Cypriot side Andreas Mavroyiannis met yesterday in Ankara with the Turkish Undersecretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Feridun Sinirlioğlu. The meeting lasted an hour and a half.
In Athens the meeting between the Turkish Cypriot negotiator Kudret Ozersay and the Secretary General of the Greek Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Anastassis Mitsialis, lasted more than two hours. No statements were made either in Athens or in Ankara.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
Talks resumed after the leaders of the island’s two communities, namely President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu, agreed on a seven-point Joint Declaration outlining their vision of a reunified Cyprus.
