APOEL and AEL overcame lowly AEK Kouklion and -37 Alki respectively to keep the coals hot at the top of the championship.
The Limassol team had no problems in clearing the bottom club hurdle by 3-0, without overexerting themselves and stayed first on 56 points while APOEL showed its remarkable tenacity in attack with newly-arrived stars De Vincenti and Santin scoring twice each to give the Nicosia club a 6-1 win, remaining a point behind on 55.
By all accounts, coach Giorgos Donis is proving to be just what APOEL needed and they are now on a roll of 9 consecutive wins, two games before we go into the play offs.
AEL did what they were expected to do, knowing that last years’ champions were comfortable winners hours earlier.
Apollon stayed a close third on 53, following an emphatic win over resurgent AEK Larnakas by 3-0.
Ermis kept a watchful eye on the top guns, beating a determined Aris side 2-1. Now on 48, the Aradippou team are 8 points off AEL and are hopeful of a comeback, but do have to be aware of Omonoia who were back to winning ways (in spite of financial woes) and reached 45, following a lacklustre 1-0 win over Ethnikos Achnas in Nicosia.
Their year gone and their prestige tarnished almost beyond recognition, Anorthosis suffered yet another setback, drawing 1-1 to Salamina at home in a tight Famagusta derby, marked by each team getting a player sent off in the last minute of extra time.
Anorthosis are a distant 6th on 38, seven off Omonoia, with Salamina following on 32. In the relegation battle, Enosi managed to salvage a point at Doksa Katokopias in a 1-1 draw and are now just two points off Aris who are in a play-off spot
