Chrystalla Georghadji will be the new Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus as of April 11, after Panicos Demetriades` resignation from the post on Monday.
European Central Bank President Mario Draghi was informed this morning by Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades about his decision to appoint Georghadji.
A written statement by Government Spokesman Christos Stylianides, issued on Tuesday, said that Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades “has decided to appoint Mrs Chrystalla Georghadji, currently the Auditor General of the Republic, to the post of the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus, effective 11 April, 2014.”
Stylianides noted that “with regard to this issue, the President of the Republic had this morning a telephone communication with the President of the European Central Bank, Mr. Mario Draghi, whom he informed about his decision.”
