Former Australian Open runner-up Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus has received the first of three wild card spots in the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship at River Oaks Country Club April 7-13.
Baghdatis has reached 11 career ATP finals, including the 2006 Australian Open, when he fell to Roger Federer in the title match. He is also among the most successful Davis Cup players in history, ranking fifth among current players for most match victories with a 62-13 record overall and 43-3 mark in singles. His current 32-match Davis Cup singles winning streak is the second-longest in history and leads all active players.
Players previously entered include former Clay Courts champions Juan Monaco (2012), Lleyton Hewitt (2009) and Ivo Karlovic (2007) as well as Spaniards Tommy Robredo and Nicolas Almagro, two of only four active players on the ATP with more than 200 career match wins on clay. Bob and Mike Bryan, the world’s top doubles team, are also returning.
