A1(M) driver rescued after ‘extreme’ diabetic emergency

Police officers had to force their way into a car on the A1(M) after a driver had an “extreme” diabetic emergency.

The drama unfolded on the hard shoulder close to South Mimms on Sunday.

Police were called by passers-by at around 4.40pm. The patient had pulled up on the northbound carriageway, underneath the junction for South Mimms.

A force spokesman told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “The officers forced entry to the vehicle and got the man out before administering first aid.

“They used a defibrillator machine to monitor the condition of the man’s heart and also created a high sugar drink as the man had dangerously low blood sugar levels.”
