A motion has been put  that Turkish Cypriot elementary school students in the occupied territories of Cyprus to learn Greek as part of their curriculum at school. In addition, the kind of anthem students usually begin the day with, which expresses nationalistic feelings in favor of Turkey,  to be abolished. The decision still has to pass through the “parliament” in order to be implemented. But the consideration, of this policy is a remarkable event.

This news is, in fact, groundbreaking. It’s incredible – the best follow-up to the events; the best way to establish new ground for the solution to the Cyprus Problem.

In the same token us Greeks Cypriots should not be imperialist thinking they should just pander and honour our language. It be good if Greek Cypriots learnt some Turkish too!

Tbh i think people need to forget about greek and turkish nationalism. Whats the point of Cyprus to have its own flag, government and yes their own people (not everyone is from greek and turkish ancestry) when we have a dialect that is spoken through out cyprus which is ‘cypriotic’ and before anyone says it can’t be written yes it can be written (do your research). Don’t get me wrong its good for people to learn greek and turkish but really we should be taught in school and should be considered as the main language for everyone to speak in Cyprus which is ‘Cypriotic’. That would more likely bring a solution to Cyprus’s problems because its Greek and turkish nationalistic extremists that have unfortunately brought problems to Cyprus. I don’t have problems of people being proud of being greek and turkish but we are cypriot, an own identity now and its even proven genetically.
